Superpoly creates whimsical furniture collection "tinged with sunshine"

French design studio Superpoly looked to the Mediterranean summertime to craft the Postcard collection of "sun-tinted" furniture and homeware for Copenhagen gallery Etage Projects.
Presented at this year's Nomad design fair, the products exhibited include a cabinet, a chair, a side table, a floor lamp and two table lamps.
Antoine Grulier and Thomas Defour, co-founders of Superpoly, based the collection on their memories of summer days spent in Côte d'Azur, and the area's strong focus on craft.

The one-of-a-kind collection of furniture features bright colours and wonky, handmade forms.
"The light of the Mediterranean mostly inspires us. Historically, many artists have gone looking for it in the French Riviera, like Cezanne or Picasso," the designers told Dezeen. "It is a pool of history, with very special craftsmanship, but more importantly, it is the exterior way of life that stimulates us."

Another source of inspiration was the modernist, post-war holiday houses built across the coast in the south of France such as the E-1027 villa, built by Irish architect Eileen Grey in 1929, one of the pioneers of the modernist movement.
