This week, Dezeen Day and the Dezeen Awards 2019 took place in London
This week on Dezeen, we held the inaugural Dezeen Day conference and the overall winners of the Dezeen Awards 2019 were revealed at our party in London.
On Wednesday 30 October, we launched our international architecture and design conference at London's BFI Southbank, which saw industry leaders come together to discuss key topics like the circular economy, future cities and education.
MoMA curator Paola Antonelli kicked off the event with a keynote presentation in which she drew attention to the climate crisis, and told delegates that anger is a better catalyst than angst for designing a better future.

Other highlights included architect and film director Liam Young advising architects to design video games, and brand consultant Suzanne Livingston stating that humans will be replaced by artificial intelligence during a panel about future cities. In a discussion about the circular economy, Dutch designer Richard Hutten clashed with the fellow panellist Andrew Morlet, CEO of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, over the use of plastic in the future.
Hutton also said that he "will never design in plastic again", and apologised for the red plastic Gispen Dombo mug he made in 2000.
