Animation shows stadium made from steel shipping container for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar

Work is already underway on the Ras Abu Aboud stadium in Doha, designed by Fenwick Iribarren Architects for the controversial 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.

Made from modified steel shipping containers arranged in an "elegant curved square", the Spanish architecture practice's modular design means it can be dismantled and moved to a new location in Qatar after the football tournament.

Each shipping container contains the elements required for a stadium to seat 40,000, including removable seats, concession stands and bathrooms.

The venue can be effectively recycled after the World Cup, either by being moved to a new location to host future games or repurposed into several smaller sports and cultural venues.
"We are confident that this innovative and sustainable concept will be an inspiration for stadium developers and architects around the world, capable of creating aesthetically pleasing venues that offer new legacy possibilities,? said Mark Fenwick, architect and senior partner at Fenwick Iribarren Architects.

Using adapted shipping containers as building blocks cuts down on the amount of building materials required, creating less waste and reducing the stadium's carbon footprint.
