Traditional Patterns and Modern Concrete
Located in Lucknow, India, this large building adopts many local habitat codes such as its courtyard responding to climatic imperatives. The temperature can reach up to 35 degrees during summer! Patterned screens are also inspired by Indian architecture, as are “chikan” embroidery. These screens bring personality to the home but are especially useful for sheltering the sun’s interior, creating various projections of lights throughout the day, as well as for reducing noise from traffic. «Built almost entirely in raw concrete, a natural palette of sandstone and wood with muted colours, vivid Indian art and landscape are brought together in different compositions in each of the internal volumes», notes a press release.
Sanjay Puri Architects sign this architectural gem combining ancestral techniques and contemporary style.
