Carleton’s Azrieli School to Host New Image of Home Exhibition
The Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism at Carleton University will present the New Image of Home exhibit, which features digital drawings based on 60 years of photographs in Canadian Architect magazine.

New Image of Home is the culmination of a two-year research project into the evolution of the Canadian home and its visual representation in the media. The project is based on an analysis of 325 residential projects ? single-family home and small multi-unit buildings ? published in Canadian Architect magazine from 1956 to 2017.
The opening reception and lecture will take place on March 16 in the Pit, and the exhibition in the Lightroom Gallery of Carleton?s Architecture Building. As part of the opening, Johan Voordouw, the exhibition?s artist and professor at the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism, will deliver a talk. The exhibit?s research comprises an analysis of the interior photographs and floor plans as well as the creation of images aimed at developing a new way of digitally drawing architecture.
In his analysis of floor plans, Voordouw discovered more than 200 room names. Some are unique, such as a ballet or hockey room, while others reveal changes in how we live ? from billiards and recreation rooms to media rooms.
