The 2024 edition of the Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) featured a VIP Lounge Box Office inspired by Douglas Fir timbers, a presentation by IIT Professor Michelangelo Sabatino and more.
The design of this year?s VIP Lounge Box Office at the ICFF, which was held in Toronto?s Distillery District, was inspired by the Douglas Fir timbers that were originally used as the racking system in the Distillery tank houses which supported whiskey barrels for 180 years.

Architect Silvio Baldassarra and Cristiano de Florentiis, artistic director of ICFF, rescued the timbers that were taken from the tank houses and stored in a wooded forest. The result was a rustic slated vertical random façade sustainable design complete with repurposed container shipping boxes used as cladding. The repurposed timbers aim to tell a story of “returning the wood to its original home.”

This year, NORR partnered with ICFF for a special NORR-ed live presentation on July 17, 2024, which was delivered by IIT Professor Michelangelo Sabatino.
The presentation was about the design excellence of legendary Italian designer and architect Carlo Mollino. The second story continued with the cut offs from the 2×5 Douglas Fir from the Box Office project in two-foot lengths and evolved into an idea to commemorate the Mollino design of the Bisiluro race car entered in the 24 hour Les Mans in 1955.
