Laurentian University hosts International Wood Educators Conference this Thursday and Friday
This coming Thursday and Friday, the McEwen School of Architecture at Laurentian University located in Sudbury, Ontario is hosting an International Wood Educators Conference for college, university, and practitioners associated with wood design and architecture. The McEwen School of Architecture was founded with the championing of wood as a making and building material as one of its core ideas.
The conference aims to assess the varying approaches to wood construction education in Canada and Europe. Presenters will be coming from across Canada, Austria, Switzerland, and Norway.
The conference will look at teaching by making through experiential, hands-on, design-build courses and projects; teaching by design through architecture design studio pedagogies; teaching by the book through lecture courses in architecture and engineering; and teaching by example through case studies of projects by practitioners. Presentations will showcase innovative and experimental pedagogies spanning timber structures and craft from the fundamental to some of the world?s most contemporary digital fabrication methods.
All of the presentations are open to the public. Â The event will be held from September 12th & 13th in the school?s atrium and “crit pit” inside the Elm Street entrance.
