Hugo Eppich to receive Order of Canada

Architectural patron and manufacturer Hugo Eppich has been named to the Order of Canada. Eppich is among 120 new appointments, announced by Governor General Julie Payette on December 28, 2019.
According to the official citation, Eppich is being honoured ?For his forward-thinking leadership in business and for supporting multiculturalism, architecture and the arts.?
Eppich was the owner of the Erickson-designed Eppich House II, considered one of the architect’s masterworks. His company, Ebco Industries, manufactured all the parts for the steel-structure home and its furnishings. ?Says Geoffrey Erickson, nephew of Arthur Erickson, “Hugo hired Arthur Erickson to freely design the most daringly experimental steel house ever built, including all the furniture! This masterpiece of steel design, manufacturing, and finishing demonstrates both his commitment to the arts, and the highest level of quality manufacturing and advanced technology that Canada can produce.? Eppich’s company, Ebco, also manufactured the Erickson-designed giant Richmond Menorah, and the Robson Square steel sculptures and the new domes covering the outdoor ice rink:
