rzlbd’s Spatial Cocktails commended at World Architecture Drawing Prize
Together with co-curators Make Architects and the Sir John Soane?s Museum, the World Architecture Festival has named the winners of the second Architecture Drawing Prize. Among this year’s commended entries, Toronto architect Reza Aliabadi was honoured for the second year in a row, with the Spatial Cocktails (Night) commended at the Architecture Drawing Prize 2018.

Spatial Cocktails are a series of conceptual drawings, exploring the idea of ?space? and ?spatial relations? as the very essential and distilled contribution of architecture as a discipline. These drawings intend to represent architectural space as an entity without any attachments such as context, program, material, and the like.
Space to architecture is what spirit is to a cocktail; and similar to a cocktail, these ink-wash drawings are made of liquors, wines, juices, espresso, and of course black ink. In this case ? Spatial Cocktails (Night) ? seven hand-drawings on handmade papers are scanned, digitally superimposed, and then inverted into the opposite colour range. For rzlbd’s Reza Aliabadi, this year’s commendation follows another win last year, when Aliabadi’s 100 received a commendation in the hand-drawn category.
The winning and shortlisted entries will be on display at Sir John Soane?s Museum in London from October 17 – November 18, 2018.
